Dorothy's debut LP ROCKISDEAD, released back in summer 2016, ironically proves that rock is, in fact, NOT dead. The band takes aesthetically rock n' roll concepts and blares them in their songs with heavy electronic/blues guitar and the lead singer's gritty, powerhouse vocals. This album is great for anyone looking for the old-fashioned, rugged rock n' roll sound that's so often missed by fans of classic rock. Frontwoman Dorothy Martin has the perfect rock star vibe, establishing herself as the "strong, independent woman who don't need no man" particularly in the songs "Kiss It," "Woman," and "Missile." The familiar rock topics of rebellion and misbehavior are found in "Raise Hell," "Wicked Ones," "Whiskey Fever," and "After Midnight." Most of the remaining songs, "Dark Nights," "Gun In My Hand," and "Medicine Man," are about love and for the most part, join the others in being hard, bluesy foot-stompers. "Shelter," the final track, is the one set aside from the others in that area. Though it still has a bluesy tone, it's the only acoustic track and provides a sad, sentimental feel. Many of the songs in the album seem to embrace the idea of sinful behavior and being Hell-bound. On the other hand, "Shelter" seems to be about Dorothy searching for a refuge or escape from that part of herself; as the chorus repeatedly asks "will you give me shelter from myself?"

Though Dorothy is a rock band, Dorothy herself has stated that she enjoys adding in elements of other genres as well, including hip hop, jazz, and soul. This is stated and further discussed in an interview with Cryptic Rock [http://crypticrock.com/interview-dorothy-martin-dorothy/]. In relation to this subject, she makes an interesting point about music and rock as a genre. "There should never be any rules. First of all, rock n' roll is all about breaking the rules, and so is music in general. So that's our goal. I say goal, but I just let life inspire me and let it happen." Along with having the musical talent to create a great album, she and the band seem to have a great and important view on what music is and should be. Sometimes overlooked is a song's great potential when it's created with the kind of openness and fluidity that Dorothy describes.

Soon to be both starting a new tour in the beginning of 2018 and releasing a new album, fans greatly anticipate the new music and development that Dorothy has in store.
