Partners is the first official full-length album released by IRONTOM; a band that can be described as quirky and perplexing, but strangely appealing. Identifying their genre is a bit of a challenge, even for the members. However, their music can be considered to be a mix of indie, punk, and alternative rock as well as, according to member Zach Irons, influenced by classic rock. Whether or not their music catches you from first listen, they’re even better and can be truly appreciated once seen live, because they bring such an incredible energy to the stage that makes the audience members unable to look away. This may be out of either admiration for their talent or curiosity at what in the world is going on inside their heads (possibly both). But whatever impression they make on each individual, their musicality and stage presence is captivating, to say the least.
“Brain Go” talks about the experience of trying to find a girl or “the right” girl and pondering how a relationship may or may not work out. It also discusses the slightly disorienting effect that this process has on the singer’s mind. Despite the subject of emotional turmoil, “Brain Go” has a fun, light-hearted beat that’s easy to sway and head-bob to. “Be Bold Like Elijah” has been a well-loved track since the band released it as a single early last year. The tone has a darker, almost eerier sound with a fist-pumping beat that fittingly encourages the listeners to do just as the title instructs them. The song was apparently inspired by a friend of the band who even makes an appearance in the music video. The inspiration for the album’s title, “Partners,” is fairly slow and mellow, being a dedication to friends who have stuck around despite their struggles. But in addition to the slower beat, it contains a powerful, sentimental mood that, in a live show, would definitely inspire a sea of waving arms.
